Reimagine Nolensville Road
Community Meeting on May 27th

A clear priority was SAFETY.
Attendees raised concerns about speeding, dangerous crossings, turning conflicts, lack of lighting, and unsafe conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and transit riders. Many ideas focused on traffic calming, better crosswalks, improved signal timing, speed control, safer sidewalks, pedestrian islands, better lighting, and stronger enforcement.
Transportation and access were also major themes. Neighbors expressed interest in more frequent and convenient bus service, safer and more comfortable bus stops, better connections to downtown, schools, shopping, restaurants, the airport, and possibly future rail or dedicated transit options. Several comments also emphasized walkability, bike access, and accessibility for people of all ages and abilities.
Attendees also shared many ideas for making the corridor more welcoming and attractive. These included more trees, plants, murals, facade improvements, better signage, outdoor lighting, beautification grants, cleanup efforts, and incentives for business owners to improve their properties.
There was strong interest in supporting local businesses and creating more places that bring joy, culture, and daily usefulness to the neighborhood. Ideas included a grocery store, bookstore, family-friendly gathering spaces, restaurants, coffee shops, a farmers market, art and maker spaces, community workspaces, wellness businesses, and cultural spaces. Several comments also reflected a desire for fewer businesses that feel extractive or disconnected from neighborhood needs.
Parking and access were also discussed. Suggestions included shared parking, common parking areas, safer access to businesses, clearer signage, shaded parking, and better coordination between parking, transit, walking, and biking.
Across all of the notes, one larger message came through clearly: neighbors want a safer, greener, more walkable, more welcoming, and more community-centered corridor. People want improvements that support local businesses, protect pedestrians, improve transportation options, and reflect the character and diversity of the community.

Pocket park between Glencliff HS and Glencliff Elementary. There is a disk golf basket there, need additions for adult fitness, pull up bar, etc.

I’d like to work more with 16th United, but I’m really turned off by the anti-housing rhetoric. I support higher density and I love our neighborhood. I don’t feel the same at 16th U. though. Apartment dwellers and condo owners are neighbors, not enemies!

We talked a lot about the diversity and multiculturalism represented in our community. However, we did not see that physically replicated at the meeting. I would love to see a strong, focused effort to recruit both community members and business owners that represent that multicultural diversity so their voices are heard too. Thank you for this meeting. I’m blown away by the collaboration and positivity I saw tonight. GREAT WORK!

How do we suggest ideas that come to us after this gathering? Maybe next time the flier could include the discussion topics so we can come with ideas prepared
